# Panel Prep Kit — NotebookLM Workspace Guide

A ready-to-use research workspace for Dr. Bonnie Styles to prepare for her AI panel at the
**ASMD Directors Forum, February 2027**. Built around Google NotebookLM, which answers questions
*only* from sources you give it — every answer comes with citations back to the exact passage.
No hallucinated facts, no homework for her beyond reading.

**Time to set up: ~15 minutes. Cost: free.**

## Step 1 — Create the notebook

1. Go to **https://notebooklm.google.com** and sign in with any Google account.
2. Click **"+ Create new notebook"**.
3. Name it: **`Museums & AI — ASMD Panel Prep`**

## Step 2 — Add the six sources

For each source below, click **"+ Add source"** → **"Website"** (or **"Paste text"** if a page won't import), paste the URL, and let NotebookLM ingest it. Add them in this order — it roughly moves from sector frameworks → ethics → policy precedent → current state.

> **Tip:** If a `.gov` or association page imports as a thin stub, open it, copy the article body, and use **"Paste text"** instead. NotebookLM works better with full text than with a sparse crawl.

## Step 3 — Generate the overview

Once all six are in, click **"Notebook guide"** (bottom of the sources panel) → **Generate**. NotebookLM produces an auto-summary, key topics, and suggested questions across all six sources. Skim this first — it's a 2-minute orientation to what the corpus actually covers.

Optional: click **"Audio Overview"** to generate a ~10-minute podcast-style discussion of the sources. Good for listening on the drive.

## Step 4 — Five queries to run for the panel

Paste these into the chat box. Every answer will cite which source(s) it came from — click the citation to verify before you quote it.

**Q1 — Talking points**
> "Across all sources, summarize the 5 most important things a science-museum director needs to understand about AI right now. Keep each to two sentences and cite the source."

**Q2 — Q&A / objection prep**
> "If a skeptical board member asks 'Why does our museum need an AI policy at all?', what evidence-backed answer do these sources support? Include the strongest counterpoints I should be ready for."

**Q3 — Citation finder**
> "What specific statistics or survey numbers about museum AI adoption appear in these sources? Give the number, what it measures, the sample size, and the exact source for each."

**Q4 — Framework comparison**
> "Compare how the ASTC typology, the Smithsonian statements, and the AAM materials each handle disclosure and transparency of AI-generated content. Where do they agree, and where do they differ?"

**Q5 — The policy-gap angle**
> "These sources suggest most museums don't yet have an AI policy. Based only on the precedents here (e.g. the Smithsonian), what would a minimal, responsible first-draft AI policy contain for a mid-sized science museum?"

## What to tell Bonnie

- Every answer is **grounded in the six sources** — if it's not in them, NotebookLM says so rather than guessing.
- She can **add her own sources** anytime (an ASMD member's draft policy, a board memo) and the answers update.
- The whole notebook is **private to her Google account**; nothing is shared unless she chooses to.
